Ether.

Ether is the single most powerful building block of all things. All energies are but manipulations of the ether: the lightning that strikes during a thunder storm or the heat of the lava from a volcano, to the Paralyze spell cast by a magi. Mages, Priests, and yes even the gods themselves pull upon the ether to do their workings. The difference between them is that some are more skilled, and others have different ways of manipulating the ether that binds us all.

Take the mage. A mage draws upon his own life forces and manipulates it by concentrating it through special words that help him focus on the spell he casts.

Priests pray, and in their own way the priests effect the ether around them by asking it to do things by their praying, as do others that pray. Priests also have the ability to call down upon the workings of ether made by their gods.

The gods are exceedingly skilled workers of the ether, it is where they get their immense power from.

Ether may be manipulated in all ways by those who realize that ether is all and everything. It is in this way that one may achieve godlike powers. Technically all one must do is learn how to focus the ether both in and around them in order to manipulate it in all sorts of ways. Words, motions, and other such things are not necessarily, well... ...necessary.

All things are but manipulations of ether, and he who controls the manipulations, controls all things.
