Baba Yaga lives in a log
cabin, which moves about
Sosaria on six chicken
legs. You might have seen
her house in the distance,
running a scared rabbit
to ground. Her house
likes to roost on the
edge of the Bog of
Desolation. She�s built a
fence of rabbit bones in
front of it, topped off
with the fire-charred
skulls of two people who
offended her long ago.
Sometimes Baba Yaga
leaves her house at home
and flies about in her
giant mortar, steering
with the pestle and
smacking people on the
head as she goes past.
The house has two rooms: a parlor where she cackles over her horrible plans and scribbles her secrets in spiky handwriting, and a kitchen where she makes horrid pies and stews. It has no bedroom, so Baba Yaga sleeps on the straw roof.
Baba Yaga is very old. She�'s so old she�s lost all her teeth, but she forced a blacksmith to make her iron teeth.
Baba Yaga�'s favorite food is bunny rabbits. She eats them whole or bakes them into a pie. Sometimes she bites the ears off and makes the rest into a stew. She'�ll even eat an Easter Bunny! They'�re her favorite. Some years she eats ten Easter Bunnies, gobbles them up, bones and all! The green grass from their Easter baskets hangs from her iron teeth for days.
Maybe some day Baba Yaga will have eaten all of the Easter Bunnies. Then what will good children do on Easter? They'll have no eggs to find or candy to eat. Perhaps they'll have turnip hunts and eat candied turnips instead!
