Thomas worked at the Yew Court for many years. While there, he was disbarred for “improper handling of evidence.” He was returned to work by Casca where he served as the Royal Prosecutor.

Enforcer Xavier: Prosecutor Miller, you may begin.

Thomas Miller: Thank you, your honor. Today, I will prove that Daniel Harper, one of the Royal Spies, is guilty of treason against Britannia and other crimes against its ruler, Lord Casca. Since the accused has refused to plead guilty, I ask for the maximum sentence for these crimes.

EX: Very good. You may present the evidence.

Daniel Harper: Wait. Don’t I get to say anything?

EX: No. Speak out of turn again, and I will hold you in contempt.

TM: Thank you, your Honor. I enter into evidence a training list for Royal Spies, including one Joseph Wainwright and the accused. The list is signed by a spy trainer named Tess Midnight. I also enter into evidence a report about an Ilshenar mission written by the accused and Joseph Wainwright. I enter into evidence a commendation written about the accused by Tess Midnight. I will now prove that the accused worked with these two to undermine our great nation.

EX: Damn traitor!

TM: Traitor, indeed. I now enter into evidence a covert report from an unnamed source saying that Tess Midnight is still alive and working for the Empress of Tokuno. I also enter into evidence a report by Magnus Grey explaining the treason and death of Joseph Wainwright at the hand of a criminal named “the Pauper.” The accused is linked to two known traitors already, but I contend that the accused is also this Pauper character.

DH: This is insane! I worked with those two, but I never conspired with anyone. I am not the Pauper!

TM: I must object, your Honor. I am trying to give my evidence.

EX: Sustained. Guards! Gag this man.

TM: Thank you, your Honor. I present a list of crimes done by this Pauper with notations next to them explaining Mr. Harper’s lack of an alibi.

EX: You’ve convinced me. I suppose I should let the traitor say something. Anything to add?

DH: (Sounds like yes, muffled).

EX: Your guilty silence is enough. I deliver a verdict of guilty. Now for sentencing. Does the Royal Prosecutor have any suggestions?

TM: The guilty party did not plead guilty, so I must ask for the maximum sentence for treason.

EX: I agree. The traitor will be executed in one hour.

Letter:
Dear Thomas Miller:

I would like to offer you the job of Royal Prosecutor. The current holder of the office lacks a good conviction record and has been asked to step down. I believe you will be more competent in the role. I have sealed the record of your previous disbarment. If you do the job well, I can see you following in my footsteps and being promoted to the new Royal Council. We can discuss my changes to the legal system shortly and my expectations concerning convictions.

Good work. My aid has told me that your conviction rate is almost perfect. I will ignore these few minor failures since it is indeed very difficult to convict a corpse. I am sending a few high profile cases your way soon, and I expect results.

Letter:
Dear Sis,

I am hard at work at my new job. Lord Casca has some interesting methods. I am concerned about some of his laws. I am sending you this letter for safe-keeping. Please do not share it with anyone yet. As father used to say “The greatest injustices are done with the form and pomp of a false trial.” I believe Lord Casca has crossed the line with some of the people he has asked me to work to convict. Since I’d rather not get on his bad side, I will continue to do the work.

Dear Lord Casca:

I would like confirmation about charging these other Royal Spies with treason. Since I have no evidence, it seems problematic to prove treason. Also, they do not seem to be in any condition to enter any sort of plea, guilty or not guilty.
