Valentine's Day 2010

On Saturday, 13 February 2010, citizens of the realm participated in an odd event, seemingly sponsored by the Crown, that related to the following day's traditional celebration of romance and love (14 February), traditionally called Valentine's Day.

In fitting with the theme, the event was designed to be performed either by couples (for these purposes, and quite luckily for me, a “couple” could be a team of any two people, romantic entanglement or not) or individuals. Those with a partner for the event would have an advantage, as the work could be divided.

The event revolved around deciphering clues to various locations. The clues were given out by a strange, pink-colored, floating creature which seemed friendly enough. At these locations were objects on which words were inscribed. With the exception of three words at the end, all of these words fit the theme of the holiday in some way (“cuddles,” was one example).

The first person or “couple” to bring back all the words “won” the event, and was rewarded with a note of some kind at the Reward Hall in Malas. Nearly everyone who participated was awarded with an alarmingly cute, strange representation (along the lines of a child's plush toy) of a small bear.

It should be noted that the last few words, rather than being thematic, had ominous portents of coming events. The Royal Spies (Her Majesty's Secret Service) and the Royal Guard had been notified that this might happen.

For example, coming events may involve the demonic librarian Bartholomew and the City of Trinsic.
