Title: The Jukan Traditions

Author: Loremaster Tehrok

The Great Mother

The Great Mother is the patron matriarch of all Jukans, and is the divine being who granted the Jukans their status as honorable warriors and glorious clans. It was through the Great Mother's guidance that the first Shirron was enstated and the clans united, and it was the Great Mother's will that the Blessed Halls of Honor and the ritual of the Life Song were instituted. The Great Mother gave of herself to bless the Jukans and to grace us with her favor, and it is by her favor that battles are won or lost. To blaspheme against the Great Mother is a source of extreme dishonor, and to deny her is the swiftest way to ensure one's own defeat. The Great Mother has promised to all honorable Jukans that in death they shall be raised up into her Embrace, to serve and protect as her holy guardians.

The Shirron

Each clan of the Jukans once held their own Warlord and Clan Leader, and in the Dark Times these clans fought bitterly and harshly with one another to search for supremacy and dominance. Under the guidance of the Great Mother, this was quashed to unite the clans under a single leader to be designated as the Shirron, and that it would be the most worthy and honorable leader that the Jukans had to offer. Since the first Shirron was chosen by the Great Mother herself, whenever the Shirron has died or become too old to continue performing his duties, a new Shirron is chosen by way of the Great Tournament, in which Warlords may compete for the right to be placed on the throne. At least one clan other than the competitors' own must support a competitor for them to be able to compete for the throne of Shirron.

The Keeners

For all Jukans who die an honorable death, at least one keener shall be appointed to cry and lament over the passing of the honored dead. Keeners should be appointed from the dead's own clan. Each clan has their own rules for how long and how many keeners are appointed, and in what manner it is assessed. An exception to this is the Shirron, for whom the keeners must lament and weep for fifty days after the Shirron's funeral, and accompany the ashes back to the Shirron's original clan's tomb. In an exception to all other honored dead, keeners for the Shirron may come from any of the Jukan clans.
