Title: A Brief History IV

Author: Chamberlain Kasha

A Brief History of the Lore Council and the Matriarchs - The Cataclysm's Consequences

In the wake of Chamberlain Tarathas' attempt to control the nexus points, the Matriarchs were enlightened and had the folly of allowing the Lore Council to operate with little oversight painfully shown to them. Although it's hard to imagine what kind of havoc Chamberlain Tarathas could have wreaked had he not vanished into the nexus point along with the Crystal Lattice of Anjur, the Matriarchs seem to believe that the threat was one to our very way of life, and due to this instituted several changes in the workings and proceedings of the Lore Council. The Matriarchs ensured that from now on the Lore Council and those on it no longer had access to the ancient records and rituals that the Matriarchs guarded, and that the Matriarchs would have direct oversight of the Lore Council's rulings. The Lore Council would also always have at least one agent of the Matriarchs placed upon it. The Lore Council would continue to rule over the Meer people but the Matriarchs planned to take a more active role to make sure that the tragedy that took place at Anjur, where hundreds of loyal Meer gave their lives for the safety of Ishpuria, would never happen again.

The Cataclysm at Anjur caused a ripple throughout the void, and some mages believe that to this day the void has been irrevocably cracked, and that each time a great force of magic is drawn from it that the cracks grow ever wider. Many have theorized that these cracks and fissures in the void could be utilized for destructive purposes, while some have postulated that it may even be possible to use these cracks in the void to pierce the void itself, and thereby pass through it to strange new lands. Despite how well presented and researched some of these theories sound, all attempts to perform any sort of tests on the cracks in the void are blocked by the Matriarchs and the Lore Council. The Lore Council continues to rule as the chosen emissaries of the people to the Matriarchs to this day, with oversight usually from a Hunter or Huntress of the Matriarchs as their chosen agent. Through the guidance and wisdom of the Matriarchs the Lore Council ensures the prosperity of the Meer people and the security of our lands.
