Blood Feud

Of Earth & Air

With the fall of the Cult of Styx, Lithos the Titan of Earth has lost his undead minions. Unfortunately, he has been able to send pieces of himself into our realm in an attempt to escape his ancient prison...

Mission 48, February 23, 2010 - Stratos
Minister Grey informed the Spies that the Skull of Mondain had been muttering things, specifically "Aid the Mountain King. Bring the dagger to the apprentice." Since the Skull is an evil artifact, it was decided any daggers found would not be handed over to anyone other than Magnus. The Minister then updated everyone on the Xenve An-amo-lem ruins; the Royal Restorers had manages to salvage several of the damaged scrolls and books in the library. Thus new information was available.

Magnus then sent the Spies to help protect Ter Mur from Void creatures which had begun swarming around the pyramid south of the Royal City. After the creatures were beaten back, a 'Fragment of Lithos' rose from the ground - the true threat revealed. The spies fought long and hard against the Fragment to emerge victorious.

It was then that she appeared, the mysterious Kasumi. She promised to help the Spies battle Lithos if they helped her reassemble the Breath of Air, a piece of which has been discovered on the Fragment. The Spies took her to Xenve An-amo-lem where the Cult had been trying to raise Lithos. The newly restored tomes furthered their understanding...

The Spies went to the great Central Dungeon of Ilshenar where it was rumored that Lothian, the Necromancer of Lithos, had been interred with one of the missing pieces. His crypt was quickly found, and his lich-like form destroyed. The piece was recovered along with the Athame of Lithos along with a book.

Prophecy, by Lothian

Vividos was swiftly located at the The Magical Light in Vesper where he worked selling the implements of magic. He knew nothing of Lothian, Lithos, or the other Titans; and appeared to be a rather novice mage. The Athame was withheld from the obvious 'Apprentice'...

Kasumi then led the Spies to Hythloth where the 'Fallen Lord of the Ankallem' held another piece of the Breath of Air. With all three pieces in her possession she brought the Spies back to Xenve An-amo-lem to reunite them and destroy the Cultist Contraption which had allowed Lithos partial access to our world. Unsurprisingly, she revealed that she was actually Stratos, Titan of Air. She also promised to teach Vividos the ways of Theurgy so he could help reinforce Lithos' prison.

March 1, 2010 - Letter left at the High Council of Britannia
The Strange Bird appeared at the Jerred Ghyss Civic Center in Compassion Grove and said that Batholomew had a message for Magnus Grey. He set daemons against the High Council and the citizens who easily defeated them. A letter from the daemon scholar was discovered

Letter, by Bartholomew

Mission 49, March 2, 2010 - Demons and Titans
Minister Grey had received the same letter that the High Council did from Bartholomew, thus he sent the Spies to discover what the scholar wanted.

The Spies met Bartholomew atop the Fire Temple and he ‘asked’ them to abandon Xenve An-amo-lem and discontinue their aid of Stratos or face the wrath of the Conclave and its new unnamed leader. Of course this request was dismissed, and the scholar was told where he should place his head – or remove it…

At Xenve An-amo-lem fire daemons stood guard at the entrance, and were quickly dispatched. The Spies made their way to the library where they found Stratos and Vividos watching over a hidden door in the eastern wall, through which Bartholomew had traveled. A tome nearby indicated that the blood of a gargoyle queen was required to properly travel through the door.

Queen Zhah was located in the Holy City in Ter Mur, and was persuaded to assist the Spies based on their past service to her kingdom. While she was not pleased that the Spies were aiding Stratos, she willingly gave them a sample of her royal blood.

Back in the ruins, Stratos used the blood to activate the teleporter hidden within the door, the words “Kal Xen Por” would allow the Spies passage.

Within the room, the mystical machine of crystal towered over those gathered – including the daemon scholar and a trapped ‘elemental of hope and light’ named Benevolence. The spies fought the daemon’s assistant causing Bartholomew to flee.

Benevolence said she had been trapped there since the days of the gargoyle brothers, and that the Principia Daemonis had brought their downfall.

When Stratos arrived she informed the Spies that she could break the wards on the teleport generator and allow them access to the inner sanctum of the ruins, but a great many magical items would be required to power her efforts. The Spies brought her bulging packs of arcane weapons and armor, allowing her to work her magics, but it would take another week before she was ready to fully power the crystal – and then the Spies would find themselves in a race against the daemons to the Fault of Lithos…

Mission 50, March 9, 2010 - Got the Book
Minister Grey sent the Spies back to the Xenve An-amo-lem ruins to complete the task Stratos had begun the week prior.

Daemons stood in the small valley containing the entry into the ruins in a futile attempt to block the Spies. Once inside they continued to battle daemonic hordes all the way to the teleport generator room where they encountered Benevolence and Stratos.

Stratos told the Spies she would journey ahead and they would need to fight their way to her. More daemons set upon the Spies as soon as the Titan of Air completed the ritual to activate the generator.

The Spies continued to fight through the gargoyle brother’s bed chamber, the Infinity Room where the Circle trapping Benevolence was kept, and to the Fault of Lithos where the Principia Daemonis was kept.

Within the Fault they met Bartholomew the daemon who demanded that the book be turned over to him in exchange for the ruined fortress. When the Spies laughed at his absurdity he attacked them. When the battle ended, the daemon scholar laid dead – a temporary condition for an entity of his power.

With the daemons death, several shards of Lithos attempted to escape into the realm – only to be cut down by the Spies. Minister Grey arrived to take possession of the Principia Daemonis and to see that Benevolence was freed.

Mission 51, March 16, 2010 - Ritual
The Benevolence entertained the Spies with tales of ancient fae artifacts that had been left to the pixies of Ilshenar, and the kitsune of the woods of Homare-jima. She indicated they would be important for the evening’s mission.

When Minister Grey arrived from a meeting with the Queen he gave the Spies free reign to investigate the odd things noted in a security briefing prepared by James.

Security Briefing, by James

The Lycaeum was besieged by daemonic forces who were attempting to wrest the Principia Daemonis from the scholars trying to decipher it. Once they had been defeated, Harriet the Scribe informed the Spies that her fellow scribe, Edmund, had been abducted and flown away.

Orders, by Buldur

Following a book left by the leader of the assault, the Spies tracked Edmund to the Cauldron of Rebirth in Ilshenar which the daemons had apparently recaptured. Once the daemons were dead and Edmund secured, he informed the Spies that he had deciphered the daemon’s language and would work on a dictionary.

In Minoc, Vividos was set to meet with Winifred Wainwright at The Golden Pick Axe to obtain a special stone column. A book listing rituals Stratos wished to have performed was found abandoned on a nearby table. Unfortunately, the column had been stolen and carried off to Ilshenar.

Vividos led the spied to the Ratman Mine near the meer town of Lakeshire in Ilshenar to retrieve the column; within they found pieces of Stratos and Lithos doing battle.

The Daemon Conclave of Hythloth was raided, and several books which clearly implicated them in the eve’s misadventures were discovered.

Vividos led the Spies to the Statue of Zog in the Wisp Dungeon where they met with the Greater Death Wisp. The wisp said it would perform several rituals if it were supplied with items of sufficient magical power. Several items collected throughout the eve, including the ancient fae artifacts which had been collected by Thanatos Angelos, were given to it.

The wisp cast the rituals to weaken Lithos, strengthen Stratos, and prepare the recovered stone column to entrap Lithos. The wisp then offered to cast two more rituals for the Spies, even ones of death… After some debate, it was decided that Bartholomew the daemon scholar should meet a permanent end, and thus the wisp wove its magic. Bartholomew was dead.

The wisp also said that it could help with the daemonic language found in the Principia Daemonis, but it would take time to prepare…

Mission 52, March 23, 2010 - Becalm the Wind
A message from Stratos requested the Royal Spies meet her in the ruins of Xenve An-amo-lem. After battling past the Conclave’s daemons and pieces of Lithos they found her in the room containing the massive fault. She wished to know of the magical column from the week before, and of the dealings the Spies had with the Greater Death Wisp.

She journeyed with the Spies to the Shrine of Compassion in Ilshenar to begin the ritual which would rebind Lithos. Unfortunately, Buldur of the Hythloth Conclave had also spoken with the wisp and was waiting to spring a trap which petrified Stratos. The Conclave had also slain several spies and chained their corpses in the nearby pass.

Stratos was able to tell the Spies that they must find Vividos in Vesper and get his help. Once he was located, and brought to Stratos, he noticed that the column had been replaced by the daemons. As the column was key to trapping Lithos, he sent the Spies to Hythloth to recover it.

Within the Conclave chamber deep in Hythloth, the Spies found Buldur with the column. He challenged them to fight two of his lesser officers to win the column. Naturally the daemons fell and the prize was won.

Once the column was in Vividos’ possession, he sent the Spies to find a book written by a mage in Moonglow who had been inspired by Stratos years ago. The Spies located the mage’s grandson who informed them the book they sought was in his family’s crypt at the nearby cemetery. Once three riddles were answered the book was theirs. Vividos promised to help entrap Lithos the following week.

Elemental Binding, by Jeram the Wise

Mission 53, March 30, 2010 - Binding Lithos
Minister Grey sent the Spies to the city of Vesper so they may help Vividos to bind the Titan Lithos. Vividos led the Spies to the Fault of Lithos deep in the Xenve An-amo-lem ruins where they taunted the Mountain King with the Heart of Earth hammer. They then placed the hammer near the petrified Stratos so it might lure Lithos to the ritual site where they would entrap him.

Notes on Ritual, by Vividos

Next, Vividos led the Spies to gather pieces of Statos that had been severed during her battles with Lithos. These pieces were found in Dungeon Shame, the Abyss, and the arena northeast of Umbra. Sadly, the daemon Nether abducted Vividos at the arena.

Knowing the ritual must be completed; Magnus led the Spies to the Compassion Shrine in Ilshenar where he summoned Lithos by banging the Heart of Earth on the Shrine itself. The Titan appeared and set many shards of himself against the Spies before entering the fray himself. Once he was weakened sufficiently, the ritual was activated by casting “Vas In Jux An Por Corp Ylem” which entrapped Lithos in a prison of light.

Two Titans stood side by side, one evil, one good. Since freeing Stratos would require new magicks, Lord Grey put out the call for rituals to be concocted.

Mission 54, April 06, 2010 - Training #10: Ciphers

Mission 55, April 13, 2010 - Freeing Stratos
A curious book lay outside the Counselor’s Hall, written by the daemon named Nether in a code never seen before.

Orders, by Nether (with decryption by Bertrand the daemon)

Minister Grey informed the Spies that the magical works of Malag-aste and Martyna Z’muir had been combined by a Lyceum scholar named Lantineon in to a ritual he believed would free Stratos.

Ritual Details, by Lantineon the Mage

First, the Spies journeyed to the bottom of the Fire Dungeon to summon the Fire Serpent so they may fell the beast and acquire its tail.

Second, the Spies went to Gravewater Lake in Malas to pry a flawless black pearl from the jaws of the Great Gravewater Leviathan.

Third, the Spies would need the blood of someone connected to Lithos. Vividos was the logical candidate, and since the Conclave had managed to capture him, his rescue became more pressing. It was decided that the Bertrand, the son of Bartholomew who sought asylum from the High Council of Britannia, would be called on to help with the book from the Counselor’s Hall. A tomb in Umbra was where the daemons had taken their captive, and then on to the Dungeon of Covetous.

Demon Cipher Key, by Bertrand

There the Spies fought many a daemon to rescue the mage, but sadly the daemons chose to slay him before they perished. As it was his blood they required, it was respectfully collected from his corpse.

Fourth, the Spies went to collect Lunar Ginseng from Yasu the monk of the Temple of the Moons on Isamu-jima in the Empire of Tokuno.

With all four reagents, the Spies went to the trapped Stratos to complete the ritual. The titan, freed from her stone prison, thanked her rescuers, and was pleased her brother was trapped in light.
