Escaped Artwork

August 21, 2010
Michael of Moonglow, a one-time blackrock researcher, had turned artist. He had recently pained an 'homage to the greats,' but it had mysteriously come alive and ran away one night. Michael claimed that he had a dream that same night that all the elements in the painting had told him how much they hated him for "committing crimes against the world of art."

Michael wanted the help of the citizens to help track down the pieces of his painting and return them to the canvas. He led the way to The Colored Canvas in Vesper where his work had been kept. There were several glops of paint on the ground, each with a strong magical impression of its depositor.

A blue drop seemed to indicate the nearby Vesper Graveyard, so off the large crowd rushed. There, they found the image of a skeleton which had fled the painting. The skeleton didn't wish to return to the canvas and had to be beaten into submission.

The next location they ventured to was the Shrine of Sacrifice where they discovered the painting's Paladin. He claimed that the painting had been so lacking in Virtue that he had fled from it in horror. He had tried to follow the other evil aspects of the painting, but had been turned back by the dragon's breath in Covetous. When it was explained that he had been the Virtuous aspect of the painting, he agreed to return to it if the citizens would release his spirit. Upon his death, he returned to the canvas.

Deep into Covetous the citizens rushed, finding the next piece of the painting in the lair of the liches. 'A Sunny Day' the setting of Michael's piece fought with elemental fury, only to be forced back into the painting. A painted woman in gothic dress appeared from behind a tattered throne, warning that "The dragon will be here soon..." The dragon crashed into the room with a great fury, biting anyone close enough. His death, and return to the canvas, was a long hard-fought battle.

The gothic lady waxed poetic about the darkness in her heart and the futility of her existence. She bade the citizens end her suffering and return her to the canvas, though the fight she put up made many wonder how sincere she truly was. In the end, she too rejoined the painting.

With his paining restored, Michael considered what his next piece might be...
