Coronation Planning
Posted by an EM on 09/09/09
While Lady Dawn has already taken charge and will act as the official leader of Britannia, we want Great Lakes to have an official coronation. We also want all of you to figure out the details. We will be posting more formal rules and details soon, but start thinking what this coronation should be like. How will the Virtues factor in? Who will crown Lady Dawn? What needs to be said?

Initial thoughts: The High Chancellor would be a goid choice for who crowns her. Hold in in Castle British obviously. Have an Honor Guard of eight individuals who each represent a Virtue for Dawn.

There should be an oath of some kind, modeled after fantasy films and the American President’s Oath, with the Virtues taking the place of divine powers and the Constitution.
She should receive some kind of weapon. Maybe duplicate Lord British’s sword from when he returned during the Age of Shadows.
As much as I’d like to see the old-school Ultima heroes have a role, it would just beg the question as to where they were during the entire event cycle. I think it’s safe to say that they’re all behind us now.
Keep it simple.
I almost always favor fighting at these events, but I wouldn’t say it should be required. It might even be nice to have a purely social event.
OR you could have a quick, combat-heavy spy event (kill the saboteurs), followed by the coronation. (Giving us 10 minutes in-between to wash up.)
Sherry should crown Dawn, as Sherry appears at this time to be the last living link to Lord British.
It should be at Lord British’s Castle in Trammel.
You should take the opportunity to introduce one or two NPCs as her highest-level advisers and administrators.

Also, before I forget…..It’s established, if unintended, lore that Dawn’s got a husband. Might want to have him show up, at least as a stationary NPC looking-on proudly.
And there should be a brief inauguration speech.

I’ll disagree with the High Chancellor (because you mean on GL rp, right?). The reason is that it would reek of favoritism towards certain individuals in the community, and I’d highly discourage that. My thoughts? I’d say Magnus, obviously, as he really was the ‘heart’ of bringing down Casca, imo.
I do think Castle British would be the logical choice, and I think a ‘course of action’ for Dawn needs to be said in her speech.

My initial thought about this is it would be nice for the HC to have some sort of involvement, be it the Chancellor giving a speech that the High Council welcomes and affirms their loyalty to Dawn… and that other public organizations or RP groups (I don’t know if others exist, but if they do, they should have the chance) also have that same opportunity (ie: maybe MOA would like to send a representative to give a short welcoming speech too).
The actual coronation though should be by Magnus Gray or… if there’s an old-time NPC that’s still alive that has some weight (Sherry the Mouse?)… But having a player fulfill the role would be an edgy, edgy sword to carry.
