Title: Research Notes 7b

Author: Seth Grimspite

So Amir Mirza has demanded I come up with a protective spell to insure that my other potion can't be used against him. He did provide a lot of gold, so I will permit him to be rather insulting. Besides, it seems like an appropriate area of research. He didn't like my original idea of simply wearing around a massive Caddellite helmet. Apparently there are practical concerns with wearing a heavy and removable block of priceless metal beyond vanity.

I've looked into a few wards and spells, but most of them can't be easily mixed into a potion. They can also be too easily dispelled. I think Caddellite is the only solution. I don't have a lot of the material. The palm-sized stone I have hidden in laundry would probably result in murder and theft if my classmates knew I had it. I can understand such methods, as they are how I came by the stone. Maybe in a potion?

I used a tiny spec of my precious Caddellite in a potion and did some tests on an underclassman. It seemed to work for a time, but the protection wore off, likely due to digestion. I need a more permanent solution. Maybe tattoo magic? Off to the library to steal a few books on the subject.

Let's see. I need to convert the Caddellite from a solid rock into an indelible ink. Simple.

It didn't dissolve in simply daemon or dragon blood. Its magical properties do seem to be stabilized by daemon blood. It is a pity I don't have any Ignavus gargoyles to experiment on. I suspect I could simply brand their flesh with the stuff to get it to work. I ended up going with a mixture of seared fire ant humor and a rare scorpion poison as the dissolving agent. With a dash of Void stuff I stole from my roommate. It made the mixture a neat color.

The burning! The pain! I spilled some of my ink. I'm going to miss that finger. I apparently need something to remove the corrosive nature of my mixture. A soothing sap maybe? I also worry about the ink's additives poisoning the person before the body has time to adjust. I think mixing in some sort of curative petal should help with that.

This is troubling. The new underclassman with my tattoo fell into a coma. Apparently, the sudden mental shock of a perfectly clear mind nearly killed him. I blamed his collapse on bad fish.

Mirza is most persistent, so I'd better figure this out. I need something that calms the mind. I know I heard about something like this is my classes. The servants of the Sleeper use it to protect their mind from the machine.

My latest tattoo ink seems to work. This new subject seems to be still alive two days later. None of my other mind potions affect him. I will send word to Mirza.

Mirza took the last of my Caddellite ink. He said he will try to get more of it. I think perhaps I should have kept enough back for my own tattoo.
