Title: Dragon Research I
Author: Edmund Butterfield
I, Edmund Butterfield the unluckiest dragon researcher, do take these notes for Cherisanth of the Crimsons, known also as the Blood Wyrm Queen. I will do what I am told, or I will die a horrible death of inferno and claw. She has explained the mechanics of this death to me, and I certainly desire to avoid such an end.
Queen Cherisanth has dictated certain customs and rituals to celebrate the hatching of her offspring. Since these customs originated in another place, she demanded my assistance as a guide. She did not elaborate on the nature of this other place and explained unnecessary talking could shorten my life considerably.
Cherisanth mentioned she already had the ritual meal. I wish I was free to inquire about the nature of dragon dietary customs, but the dragon's eyes scare me! Our first errand was to acquire gifts for the hatchling on its birth. A large amount of valuable metal was needed of two types. The first was gold, a malleable metal that the young dragon's flame could melt for entertainment.
The second was valorite, a metal with a higher melting point, a challenge for the young dragon to aspire to melt. I do not want to be around when this child can melt valorite with ease! I suggested the bank at Vesper since the merchants of the city trade in gold and buy a majority of the valorite mined in Minoc. It was terrible seeing the dragon attack the bank!
The egg requires the warmth of fire to hatch, but no ordinary fire will do. Cherisanth mentioned molten rock as a source of this heat. I suggested the Fire Dungeon as a place to get what she needs. Hopefully, she will leave me here...
