Translation of the Principia Daemonis

Here is Daemon history. The Wisps told these secrets. The Wisps are not of Sosaria.

The mundane materials existed first. These are air, stone, water, and fire.

The mundane life came second, plant and animal.

The intelligent life was born third. These were human, gargoyle, and elf.

The Elves of old were different from those of the present. Those elves lacked magic. All life was without magic.

Magic did not exist in the first days.
Good and evil together were born fourth.
Violence came with love.

Chaos and order came fifth. And here it began.

Magic existed sixth. Magic came from the conflicts. Magic came from order. Magic came from chaos.

Magic mothered children - elementals. They were the seventh.

The elementals mirrored the first materials. These are air, stone, water, and fire.

Elementals of good and evil were born. Elementals of order and chaos were born. Malevolence and benevolence are their names.

The elementals were different from other life. They were copies and imitations. They still but copied the actions of others. They ate. They grew. They died. They formed unions and mingled. Eventually they had their own children.

Elemental marriages mothered new elementals. The children were new and strange. Poison and blood were two such elementals. Great children were born: Pyros, Stratos, Lithos, and Hydros. They were the greatest of their elements. They were the Titans.

Elemental creatures mingled with other lives, mothering new creatures.

Benevolence spirit and elf mothered the fae children. Here the elves gained their magic. The Fae are eighth.

Malevolence and others were the parents of demon children. The demon reflected the mundane form of its parent. Human and elf and gargoyle made those that walk and fly. Horses were twisted into mares of the night. Mongbats gave rise to the foul imp.

The Void was the child of a great living ocean. All the ocean’s life melded into a single creature - Void.

Demons are the ninth. The ninth was born the greatest of all. Demonic life had variety and strength and power, the perfect melding of life and magic.

Demons made war on other life. Nine great wars took place.

The first war was demon brother versus brother. The weak were removed from demon-kind. From that day forth, all demons were born with purpose. Succubus to drain pleasure. Balrons to drink souls. Arcane demons to learn the mystic arts. Those who had no purpose are gone. Those who were weak are gone.

The second war was to kill the mothers of the Fae. The war crushed the spirits of good and weakened their roll in the world. The weakness of good must suffer.

The third war to kill our parent. The elemental malevolence that made us remained a threat to us. Such a being was too similar and too different to remain free. This war smashed great obelisk.

The fourth war was against the ocean waters. This war allied the demon race with the Titan Pyros. Pyros give a great prize to the demons. The token of honor was the Scorched Ruby.

The fifth war was against the elves. This war saw the birth of elves of night and shadow. These elves remain so similar to us.

We met Lithos deep under the earth. With his help, a demon made the Cauldron of Rebirth. This demon did not understand life, but he understood about undead. This unholy demon made demons rise from death with this Cauldron powered by elf and human sacrificial blood.

The sixth war was the taking of the volcanic island. The Scorched Ruby was placed in the first great demon temple.

The seventh war was against the gargoyles. It brought the An-Kal-Lem to our side as blood servants. The Titan Lithos failed in this war, and his Heart of Earth was lost. Our Scorched Ruby was also lost. The thief Stratos stole it and cracked the Gem.

The eighth war was with humanity. Our kind was defeated by Wolfgang’s Sun Ruby. All Demonkind was lost without the Scorched Ruby. Stratos will suffer for this. Stratos will die for this.

In the ninth war, demons joined the great human. All the hordes of demons allied with Mondain. Mondain make orcs. In his wisdom, he used the origin of demonkind as template.

This war shattered the magic of the Gem. This Shattering created new allies, but also lost us many old allies. Many demons retreated to Hythloth for a long time. Those demons of Ilshenar took by blood and fire Montor from Anskitas.

Demons will rise against life again. Pride will attract them. Ruin will encourage them. The Scorched Ruby will be found by a warlord named Bane of Virtue.

Virtuebane will have three generals: One of knowledge, One of bloodlust, and One of nightmares.
