Fishing Contests

February 20th, 2010 - Ice Fishing
Ships log of the Motley Cruezer, Feb. 20th, BY 449 (2010):
Docked in Yew
Captain: Vincent Wharton

Message received from the Fishing Council today. There is to be a fishing tournament all hands are asked to attend! Offer to ride aboard the Mainship.

I opted to take the offer and travel to the Shrine of Honesty on the frigid land of Dagger Isle.

Once on Dagger Isle the oddest sight caught my eye. It was a goblin! He was to be my captain!? Apparently this was so. His name was Zox Greatsnapper he was an odd looking little creature. But who was I to question.

So he told us that he was going to give a trophy to the one who could catch the heaviest fish during our several hour long Voyage. He also instructed us to collect for him all the boots and thigh boots we could find at sea and place them in a bag for him as he wished to study the strange human shoes. There was quite a number of folk there and I could tell the competition would be stiff. There were several folk there from many major guilds and some minor, as well as a very strange woman with a cow and a large furry beast I’d never seen before. I saw a number of other folk there from Yew as well as many from the Fishing Council. I also noticed several members of the Guardians of Valhalla.

We waited around on the frozen land for several moments before we finally boarded his vessel.

Once one board it was slow going at first as the shoreline was clogged with ships. I was somewhat thankful that I hadn’t brought my own, though I would later regret that decision. As we slowly left the shore I quickly baited my hook and started trying to fish up a whopper!

In no time at all the deck was littered with dozens of fish of many sizes and varieties. The seas were mostly calm and the sun shinning brightly. At some point I noticed off the starboard bow an odd frost dolphin. I was enjoying its beauty when someone felled the graceful creature. Mores the pity as I would have enjoyed studying it.

At some point there rose a mighty Kraken from the sea! That beast was as cold as ice! A Frost Kraken it had to be! I heard rumor of such a great icy beast afore but I never did see one with me own eyes until I caught a glimpse of this beast.

We sailed about the isle for quite a while and found some turbulence here and there but the seas were good. I caught a great number of boots and thigh boots and was getting more than my fair share of little fish as well, but wasn’t getting anything of any weight at all.

I saw at one point the strangest creature I think I’ve ever heard of on the sea it was like an icicle and it was alive I swear it!

There was a bit of singing on board as we sailed as well as some storytelling. But most times it was very quiet save for that strange woman with the cow who seemed to be quite ill. Obviously she didn’t have a very good constitution and was not accustomed to the sea.

About the time we rounded Nu’Jelm I caught a whopper of a fish one hundred ninety two stones! I don’t think I’ve ever caught a bigger fish in my life!

When we finally returned to Dagger Isle I was exhausted. What an adventure though!

A fellow named Someone's Bored won the competition with his fish weighing just one stone more than mine! What lucky break for him.

Gandalf The Grey was given recognition for having turned in the most boots! Thirty three! Can you believe that? I was glad that wasn’t me he must be a horrible fisherman! I only had twenty.

Well it was a very excellent adventure even if I didn’t win. When I returned ashore to Yew I stopped in at Whiskeys Tavern and he bought my prize fish off me. Said he’d declare me the runner up! Gave me thirty gold for it. Was a fair price so I let him keep it. I look forward to seeing the fish there as he told he he’d have it mounted and put over the bar.

Well that be me yarn on the fishing trip. I needs to get back to me boat.
