October 6 through 29, 2010 (Halloween Event)
Centuries ago, the banshee who was to protect the souls of the Schreckenghast family failed them miserably. While she keened their deaths, she had failed to ensure the souls made it into the great beyond. Instead, a powerful lich had captured the souls and began using them to further his own dark ends.

Eventually, the banshee discovered the lair of the lich and managed to rescue 30-some-odd souls before being discovered. Unfortunately, these souls were trapped in soul snares that she could not open. This, she devised a plan to break their magic seals through combat.

The Banshee would place several occupied snares around a banner and wait for the local populace to fend off the creatures the lich sent to take them back. Fortunately for her, the citizens she encountered agreed to help her free the Schreckenghast souls and attempt to end the lich’s existence.

In the township of Newcastle, when the last of the snares were destroyed, the banshee revealed that there were a great many more still within the lich’s lair. Her entry into the lair was blocked by a magic that would only allow a member of the Schreckenghast family to pass, since the lich had been using the souls to somehow augment his own mind.

Curiously, the banshee mentioned that one of the Schreckenghast family member’s bodies hadn’t been recovered after their castle was destroyed in a fire, and she hadn’t sensed the soul in the lair. Pleasance Schreckenghast may hold the key, however, she would have died of old-age long ago.

Surprisingly, Malag-ase of Newcastle said that he had met a woman by the name of Pleasance during his work with the Ministry of Intelligence. The woman, a necromancer, lived and worked in Umbra. A quick trip to the dark city had the favorable result of locating Pleasance, though her demeanor was far from pleasant.

When confronted with her family banshee and called by her last name she confessed that she was indeed who they sought. She had found a way to cheat death without becoming a lich herself. She even agreed to help the banshee enter the lich’s lair to rescue the souls.
