Virtuebane (Translation)
(I now believe these are the same creature.)
From Jeram’s Daemons and Other Infernal Beasts:
Virtuebane - Other Names: Bane, Pride’s Emissary, Pri-tas Jux-lem
A demon lord of great power who ruled from a great fortress called Death's Awakening prior to the founding of Akalabeth. Since many tomes from that time were lost during the Shattering, few details are known about this demon.
He was prideful, considering himself equal to the Titans. Legends say Virtuebane traveled the Dark Path and moved his fortress to the domain of fire. Some cataclysm destroyed or moved the Path from there, trapping his forces there. There is very little support for this story.
Historical accounts from Wolfgang’s destruction of the demon tribes mention Virtuebane’s absence, but it is more likely that some rival killed or displaced him.
He is said to be a powerful Cacodemon who could dominate the minds of the prideful.
(What is the Dark Path?)
From The Cosmology of Madness -
The Dark Path is some ancient artifact crafted by an unknown party that allowed travel through the Ethereal Void. Travel on the path requires a serpent jawbone, likely a tribute to the powers that maintain the path. All of the trails on the Path lead to a central area that has exits to the domains of Fire, Air, Water, and Earth. Some say that there was originally an Obelisk at the center of these doorways, but that it was destroyed long ago.
Those who find a way to walk the Path or observe it from a carefully constructed Observatory can gain access to great power, but just as likely be crushed like an insect by a great power.
The Dark Path was once easily navigated, but a cataclysm twisted and broke many of the trails. This doesn’t help the sanity of those who travel on this Path.
