Bio:
Maggie Keel, also known as Maggie the Red, is noteworthy for several things. Firstly, she is a bloodthirsty, ruthless pirate known for such in a profession where that's not uncommon, and is in fact the norm. Secondly, she is a woman in a male-dominated field. Thirdly, she is the mother of Christine Keel, once-Commandant of the Royal Guard and now, ironically, a legally-authorized pirate hunter.
Maggie Keel was a vicious pirate, famous for being the commander of the ship named known as the "Get Even." She wrought fear and terror in the way pirates are often wont to do, until one day she was finally captured and was about to be put to death. And then, she started "showing." The pirate wench was pregnant, who the lucky man was is not recorded.
Maggie the Red "plead the belly," as they say, and was eventually released and pardoned, following the birth. She returned to her life of piracy, rumor and intelligence has it, within a week.
At some point, for reasons which are not recorded, her daughter split off from her and ended up, of all things, a close associate of Queen Dawn's during the battle with the Shadowlords and their forces on Fire Island (Isle of the Avatar).
After her daughter's ascension to the position of Commander of the Royal Guard, Maggie the Red approached the Britannian government to, in essence, take her side in a pirate civil war between herself and a darker, more sinister figure named Smith, the Pirate King, and his foul bride, the Liar Queen. Maggie would likely not have survived the War of the Blood Coast, as the conflict has become known, at all had she not managed to secure a steady supply line from Bucaneer's Den, the residents of which wisely realized they had little to gain from the dominance of the Pirate King. While the Britannian government would obviously not take sides in a civil war among any criminal groups, it was fairly easy to see that Smith and his bride and his crew were by far the greater threat at the moment.
While the intent of Commander Keel and Security Minister Magnus Grey appears to have been to arrest or slay Maggie upon getting rid of the Pirate King, after the deed was done, Maggie was able to escape. She remained at large for some time, and later played a role in equipping the Bane Chosen, and indeed participated in the preparation for Virtuebane's cruellest and most effective attack to date: The murder of Queen Dawn by her own husband, Ors.
This was one crime too many. Maggie became the object of an intense manhunt by representatives of the Brtiannian government. She was, imprudently, offered a chance to surrender but, fortunately, chose to fight. She was defeated after a pithced battle. Her head decorated a pike outside the Counselor's Hall in West Britain for some time, along with the heads of 3 others who were most-directly involved in Queen Dawn's murder. Her book of lost treasures was turned over to her daughter.
