Title: The Four Humors

Author: ...

The four humors that exist in all beings capable of magic are blood (sanguis), yellow bile (cholera), black bile (melancholia), and phlegm (phlegma).

The mana of the four humors relates to the four elements: air, fire, earth, and water.

Sanquis is the humor of air and spring. It is the warm and moist humor connected with Theurgy. This humor flows strongly in the liver, which may be why several warrior groups swear that the eating of animal liver results in incredible courage during battle.

Cholera is the humor of fire and the summer. It is the warm and dry humor connected with Sorcery. Because of the connection with Pyros, pyromancers wishing to harness this humor use both fasting and anger to enhance their magic.

Melancholia is the humor of the earth and autumn. It is a cold and dry humor connected with Necromancy. Because of this, the spleen is also called “the tumor of the Mountain King.” Melancholia is also connected to blight and decay spells.

Phlegma is the humor of the waters and winter. It is the cold and wet humor connected with Tempestry. This humor is cerebral, focusing on the mind and brain. Those who worship Hydros highly value the ability to remain unemotional; some with the greatest mastery have been able to detach and dissipate their emotions into large cool bodies of water.
