Title: Notes

Author: Kahler

I have continued to research into the Cult of Styx at the request of Lord Magnus Grey. I have not sent him any of this yet since I don't consider my work complete.

To look at the problem, I started with the basics of lich magic. No all users of mana or magic become liches when they die. Use of some magical rites will never result in such an undeath. It is also clear that some uses of magic increase the odds of such a state naturally. Some also choose to find spell capable of insuring their afterlife as a lich. In both cases of chance and choice, the body is infused with certain dark animation energies. Such animation explains undead that were neither magical in life or death. A lich retains the ability to regenerate mana, but it is unclear whether undead tap into the same source that living beings do.

It seems likely that this Cult does not control all undead or all liches since such a condition would surely result in our forces being overrun by an army of undeath. Something connects them and likely the Cults human members.

I believe dreams hold the key. I have heard reports of sensitives, humans with strange connections to the ether, suffering horrible dreams that drove them mad. It is possible that this madness relates back to the cult.

I will look into this more. Maybe this old book on controlled dreaming will help...
