Title: Honor Gate
Author: Gilforn
I am collecting my notes
on the Honor Gate
problem for ease of
reference and in case
anything should happen to
me.
The Ethereal Void is like a sheet stretched tight. The world of Sosaria is a large stone sitting on that sheet. What Exodus did was cut a small hole under the boulder. The weight of the world will do the rest.
I have started observing slight changes in astronomical details with Selcius's help. A month ago only a few days after Exodus's death, the moon rose a minute late. My check this evening shows the moon rose a full three minutes late, and the moon was still a crescent where it should have been the first quarter. This is very troubling. While most would consider these minor changes, when dealing with such large objects, the forces required to make such changes are enormous. This problematic lunation will lead to problematic tides and water levels, and that is only the start.
While this tear into the Void could eventually crumble Ilshenar in a way similar to Malas, I believe this is not the immediate problem. I suspect geologic instability will be a problem far sooner. Random unstable gates could form under lava flows or fault lines. This problem will not be limited to Ilshenar because of my gates' connection to that facet.
I believe from my research into ancient Ilshenarian magic that their gate expert, Ulvol, once solved a similar problem with his gates. There is a story that he accidentally connected a moongate to a powerful vortex in the Ethereal Void. Faced with such a destructive force, he used a great source of mana and a composite moonstone device to shape the very ether, pinching off the destructive connection. Ulvol had the spell ready and cast it almost immediately, but from the small details I could find, it almost killed him.
I haven't found the exact
spells Ulvol used, and
each day the problem
grows larger and larger. I
worry we may not be
able to fix this if we
wait too long.
I have been pouring over
my notes on Ulvol. I
believe some of the
materials I have on him
came from the Cyclops
Dungeon. Apparently
before the humanoid
brutes took over the
place, it was an ancient
Anskitas outpost. Given
its close proximity to the
Wisp dungeon, it is
possible that some helpful
Anskitas relics might be
found there. I may need
to contact someone to
investigate this for me.
