Title: Ancient Ones
Author: a monk
Our order has now roused
and defeated the ancient
one that lay beneath
Despise. A fearsome
creature it was! Its
scales could cut human
skin to ribbons, the
ridges on its tail could
smash mountains, and it
could move faster than
the golden beasts of
Ilshenar. The sound of its
roar will echo in my ears
all my life.
In time, when our wounds have healed and our numbers replenished, it is hoped that we can find other ancient ones and remove them from this world. I have made a study from the oldest writings, to figure out their strengths and weaknesses.
Writings on the ancient ice-bound one are puzzling. Some say it is a fierce, billed creature that can summon undead minions to assist it in hunting down those who darken its doorstep. Others say it waddles like a duck! Yet its name in many languages is always a paternal one. For my writings, I shall call this monster from before time: Ancien Pere. It is a monster of death and destruction who rests under the ice. The stench of death around him sickens all who come near. His only true weakness is to the cold, and thus he was trapped millennia ago in a grim world of Ice.
The next creature from before time is also one of death. It roamed Sosaria searching for carrion and, worse, for people in pain whose misery it could nourish itself on. It came to rest beneath the oubliettes of early Wrong Dungeon. This creature, I shall name: Archaic Insect. It is said to sleep not, but rather to be transfixed by the blood and death that still surrounds it. It is said to fear both cold and heat.
The final creature is one I fear our order shall not be able to fight, or even find, as there are few mages among us. The Primordial Ocean Horror, as most call her, was born in the moment the first creature drowned. She lives on, happily it is said, under a lake where the surrounding ambient magic and protective spells against outsiders combine to hide her well. She fears nothing
!If I do not survive
my wounds, I ask of you
who follow after me to
continue the fight!
