I think back to the day this started. When the earthquakes came, revealing those crypts, many believed it marked the end of the world. I thought we were lucky when a single shambling form came out of the dark tunnels. I was wrong. Killing it seemed so easy, though now I wonder if we actually managed to. As my eyes adjust to this darkness, I think I see it smiling at me.

The day we killed it, it spoke those dark words “Vas Uus Flam Ex Vas Corp.” The guard closest was the first one to die. I have tried to make sense of those words. It seems to read “the greater raising of fire giving freedom to the great death.” I am a humble healer mage. I cannot work out a counter spell. Oh how I have tried! I went through every book on elementals and healing I could find! A cure is out of my power, but I can stop this, though it means no one will likely know what happened.

I have lit the town ablaze, trying to force those who already walk in death toward the open crypt. I hope this will kill quickly those dying of this pox, and they won’t have to have their bodies used by such evil. I have prepared myself for one great explosion spell that will seal the tomb I hope. I can’t do it from outside since I am already sick...

I should have been better.
