Tess Midnight was a long-time Royal Spy of Britannia, who now appears to be freelance and often works in the Tokuno Islands, for the government there. She appears to have come into Britannian service slightly before Magnus Gray and James and trained the both of them.
Tess came to the attention of the current crop of the Royal Spies as nearly-anonymous messages, and then not many, sent from her to Magnus Gray. She had gone missing sometime during the Casca regime; it now appears as though she caught onto something bad going on and just....left.
