Claude "the Guard" was actually not a guard at all; he was a member of the vile Chosen of Virtuebane, sent to steal the Cauldron of Rebirth, a sacred artifact capable of making Undead. The Demon Conclave, pawns of Virtuebane and other evil forces, had hitherto used the Cauldron to great effect, one can only imagine the horros Virtuebane would have been unable to unleah using it himself.
Fortunately, however, agents of the Britannian Government caught up to the Cauldron before it could actually be stolen. Claude had to disguise himself as a guard; his disgusie was not successful. He was engage din combat and slain.
