Battle of the Rift
![]() |
Late last night, the demonic incursion of the Isle of Magincia came to a head. Where the now corrupted moongate stands, eight beings of great strength and fortitude surrounded the mound. These 'Rift Guardians' as they were called, shielded themselves in peculiar grey flames which seemed to allow them to summon enraged berserker daemons to drive back the isle's defenders. A mage of Master skill, or greater, could douse the flames for a time by speaking the arcane words: An Sanct Flam.
As individual Guardians fell, strange black stones littered the area they occupied. I was also informed by the Minister of Virtue, Lord DaKaren, that each Guardian left behind 'a piece of blackrock' in lieu of a corpse. He seemed completely unsurprised that blackrock played a part in the final conflict, remarking that "We had better get used to blackrock being used in unfortunate ways..." Since each appearance of the stone in our history has led to death and destruction, I fear he may be correct. Before he rode off, I asked if the High Council had any knowledge of where the original rift had led. An unconvincing shrug was the only reply I received.

Once all the Guardians had been defeated by the mere handful of stalwart defenders, the seemingly damaged moongate became deep crimson in color. The defenders soon turned their attentions to ridding the Isle of any stray berserkers, and tending to the wounded. I found Lady Silverbrook returning the recently departed to life. She was pleased that the assault on Magincia was over, but urged caution in the days ahead, "Lest we be caught unaware during any celebratory festivities." The Lady also wished to acknowledge the heroic efforts of Nazdog, Ghost, Chronic, Enigma, NightStriker, Xevei, and Malchior.
The decimated Magincian landscape should give us all pause, for the sin of Pride has cost our fair Britannia greatly. The citizens of Magincia have paid the price with their lives, their homes, and ultimately, their city. This invasion has dealt our land a blow unlike any in the past, we would be wise to learn our lesson well and not stray from the Path of the Virtues again.
