Title: The Story of the Guard "Machine"

Author: MrB

I posted this story to the Role-Playing Board On UO.COM a few days ago, if you see one similar, they stole my work...
On to the story! :)

Before the fall of Trinsic to Minax and the legions of undead, there was a high ranking guard named Toob. Toob was a very strict guard who followed the law by the book. He had dedicated his life so much to his Guard work that he had sadly neglected his wife, his fellow guards nicknamed him "Machine."

As the first of the attacks came upon Trinsic Toob had noticed that many of his fellow guards fled or hid, even many citizens refused to lift a dagger to aid in the fight. Toob was unhappy, he had felt as if he had been betrayed, over the next several days Toob became very impatient with the citizens, he arrested several persons on bogus charges. This caught the attention of the Trinsic counsel, in a private meeting they told Toob that he had to retire, and that they would not speak a word of it to the people, for doing so would cause shame upon his name.

So, Toob returned home to his wife, she was thrilled he had returned, finally she thought they would be together to do the things she always wanted to do with her husband. Toob was still in shock, he could not believe that he was no longer a guard. He tried to cope with the situation, he even had a fine painting of his wife made. But he could not stay away from his other love, his guard duties.

So, a few days later Toob picked up his shield and sword once more and patrolled the streets. The Trinsic Counsel was furious, they again demanded that Toob stopped patrolling the streets, they even warned that if he were to return, he would be arrested and publicly humilated. So, again, Toob returned home, to his surprise his Wife's father had came by to visit, he had heard of what happen to Toob and was angry he would not spend more time with his wife. The old man stayed with Toob and his wife for a few days, and as time went on Toob became unstable, he felt lost without his guard duties, and to make matters worse his wife's father was angered at Toob for the neglect of his wife.

Toob tried very hard to again settle down with his wife and live in retirement, but something inside of him called him back to work, he knew Trinsic was in danger and could not sleep knowing it was under attack by the evils of Minax. Toob began to make plans to return to work, despite the warnings of the Trinsic counsel. As Toob prepared to leave, his Wife's father became upset, he could not beleive that Toob would again leave his wife, he demanded Toob stay and swore to take her from him if he left again.

But sadly, this threat was the last bit of betrayal Toob could stand, and in a fit of rage Toob murdered the old man. Knowing that he could never return to his law duties, Toob took his life by eating several Nightshade.

*Author's Notes:

Toobs wife, whose name along with her fathers name are unknown, wrote of these events on the back of the large painting her husband gave her. She had hoped that one day someone would find her painting, and her story, to pass it down to the citizens of Britania. To remind them to always stick together, even in the worst of times, and to never leave your family to another love (jobs, or anything). So, her story lives on

today. - MrB
