A strange set of circumstances and misunderstandings led Carrick andLilavieve to think they had been left by the other one, thus touching off a strange and hurtful war (if, luckily, the actual harm was limited) between the Fey and the Leprechaun race. Luckily the matter was ultimately settled thanks to the intervention of Britannians.
Through a strange quirk of fate it also turns out that the foolish couple are the parents of the strange mage, Michael of Moonglow.
The tale of Carrick and Lilavieve stands as a cautionary one: The lesson it teaches, basically, is to not be stupid and arrive at conclusions not quite warranted by the facts, then pursue hurtful vendettas for years on the basis of your erroneous conclusions.
