Sparky's World Tour

Lady Artemis, the Moonglow zookeeper, called for a gathering of citizens concerned with the wellbeing of Sparky, the fire beetle living in the tunnel between the local moongate and Britain. He had been missing for nearly a week since a portion of the roof had caved in. Artemis tasked the citizens with finding the errant beetle.

In the tunnel, they found several pieces of broken carapace laying on the ground. A psychic imprint of Sparky explained that a group of Bane Chosen had fallen through the tunnel roof and attacked him. He fought them off…eventually eating them…however, his carapace was badly damaged. Seeking aid, he went to find the Great Beetle in the wastes north of Zento.

The citizens rushed to the old home of Inu the Crone to find Kurai Kabuto, the Great Beetle. As they were trying to communicate with Kurai, the Monkey King swung out of a nearby tree and said that he would help translate. With the monkey’s help, it was learned that Sparky had come to Kurai to learn how to regrow his carapace and was told he needed to go to a safe place to rest. Kurai had suggested the pyramid in Malas since beetles were revered there.

At the pyramid, the remainder of Spary’s carapace was found, its psychic imprint added to his tale. Apparently, Sparky had felt safe there and begun to regenerate. The pyramid guardians had even begun to worship him, but that took a dark turn when he learned that they intended to make him immortal by mummifying him. Fortunately, Sparky managed to wriggle out of his old carapace and escape.

Stymied by Sparky’s absence, the citizens milled around until a sphynx appeared and offered to assist. The great beast agreed to open a portal to Sparky’s location if those gathered could correctly answer three riddles.

Riddle One: Always wax, yet always wane. A draft of wind would be my bane.
Answer: A candle

Riddle Two: What can run but never walks, has a mouth but never talks, has a bed but never sleeps?
Answer: A river.

Riddle Three: The beginning of eternity. The end of time and space.
Answer: The letter E.

When all three riddles were answered correctly, the sphynx said that Sparky was hungry from his regeneration and had gone to a “land of demons and fire and flame.”

The citizens trekked to the ruins of Montor and eventually found Sparky in one of the few small buildings left standing. He had a large pink bow tying him to a chair and a pink chain around his neck anchoring him to the building. An oversized daemon calling herself Beelzebetsy claimed that the beetle was net new pet, Suzette, and that she was very happy.

Knowing that Sparky was the daemon’s prisoner, the citizens tried to barter with Beelzebetsy. The daemon said that she would release the beetle if she received three new pets in exchange. She wanted a bullfrog, a bear, and a frost spider. Once she had all three in her clutches, she freed Sparky before skipping away.

Sparky was then brought to Verity Isle to enjoy life in the forests around Moonglow and the Royal Zoo. He may be found wandering the island or eating at the zoo.
