Bio:
Biralla was a monk of the Empath Abbey (really before there was such a thing) who lived many years ago. She was known for having a great strength of spirit. She decided at some point, for reasons which are uncleaer, to explore the northern regions of Britannia, which back then were largely unmapped and unexplored. She made her way, on foot and wearing a Monk's Robe, from Yew to what is now Minoc, having many adventures and encountering many strange characters along the way.
She is, among most Britannians, a celebrated figure. Periodically her journey is reenacted, and tales of her are very popular adventure stories. Her observations are still noted by scholars, even though what she described is now commonplace and widely known.
However, during her journey she became involved romantically with a gypsy, which led to some violence that resulted in the gypsies having unkind memories of her. The gypsies have long memories, but fortunately this also applies to the truth as well as to their legends. When the truth of Brialla and the gypsies was finally revealed by direct descendents of the gypsies she encountered, it was far more kind to Brialla than the legends had been.
The "Seven Tears" is her order, which became the cornerstone of the orders that coalesced in Yew and became collectively known simply as the Monks of Empath Abbey.
We live in a cynical age, and it is often too-easy to assume that the facts are less pleasant than the legends. Brialla's inspiring story now has another meaning: it is an example of the opposite of our cynical assumptions. Brialla's story in fact was even better to her than it was in legend. May this lady and her journey be celebrated for all time to come.
