There once was
a mongbat, who sought
be the most feared
creature in all of
Sosaria. Many
were the times he
dreamed of leading the
armies of Darkness
upon the hapless
citizens of a human
town, pillaging the
village and causing the
lamentations of the
children and women.
"O' such bliss that
would be", The
mongbat thought. He
would spend many
hours in front of a
broken mirror,
practicing his growls
and showing his small
teeth visciously.

The Monsters of his
home dungeon laughed
at him, knowing full
well that Mongbats
were the most
insignificant of
monsters, and he
could never do the
things that Orcs and
Trolls could do.
However, this did not
deter the eager young
mongbat from
fulfilling his dream.

One day, he set
out to fulfill his
dreams, roaming to the
city of Yew to destroy
it, yet try as he
might, the most he got
from the humans was
laughter and basins of
dirty water splashed
in his face. The
Mongbat never gave up
though; he tried to pick
up a rusty old sword,
thinking he could kill
a human with it, but
he found himself too
weak to even lift the
hilt. He tried casting
a fireball spell using a
scroll he picked up,
but spent most of the
day coughing from the
black smoke of his
numerous fizzles.
He tried killing sheep
from a shepherdess,
only to have the
mutton beat out of him
by the flock.
Finally, he thought
that he could wear
armor to look more
menacing, but only
wound up spending
the next three days
trying to stand upright
from the weight of
the heavy mail.

Lost in Despair, the
Mongbat sat upon a
fallen log, and sighed
in rejection. He sat
there for the longest
time staring at the
spring of water, and
wondering what he
would look like
stuffed and mounted
on a
carpetner's shop,
when he heard the
sound of hoofbeats.
He darted into the
bushes and hid,
watching as an
armored knight rode
towards the nearby
spring, his armor
gleaming in the
noonday sun. The
knight dismounted his
steed and began
removing his armor,
until he was nothing
but skin and a
loincloth. The Knight
then plunged into the
water of the spring,
relaxing in the water
and cleaning
himself.The young
mongbat decided to see
if he could steal
something from this
Knight, and sneaked to
his things, rifling
through to find a
shiny object he could
carry. After taking a
dagger, a few gold
coins and a silk cap,
he turned to leave,
only to bump up
against the knight's
sword and shield,
sending it clattering to
the ground. The
Knight's horse reared
up and whinnied,
alerting the Knight
who fumbled out of
the water.
"Who's there?" the
Knight roared
out, staggering to
his horse, as
damp as a frog
in a pond. Using what
power he had in his
wings, the young
mongbat flew through
the woods, the soaking
wet and half naked
Knight racing behind
him, riding his horse
through the dense
woods. The Mongbat
could feel the breath
of the horse on his
neck as he got
closer...and
closer...and...

:''WHACK! ''
:''THUD!''

The mongbat
stopped at the sudden
sound and turned
seeing a sight that
would astonish
anyone. The horse had
run off into the
woods, while the
knight laid spread
eagled upon the
ground, out cold! A
low lying branch with
a human shaped knot
in the bark and a
corrasponding knot on
the knight's head told
him all he needed.
The knight was so
busy chasing him, he
didnt see the low lying
branch until it was too
late. Taking this
opprotunity, the
Mongbat hurried back
to the knight's clothing
and little by little,
dragged the loot back to
his home in the
dungeon.

Back home, he told
everyone the
story of the knight,
but no one would
believe him. Finally
he produced the loot of
the knight and they all
marveled. One, a wise
old orc mage looked at
the shield and
examined the etched
markings. The orc
mage nearly fell off
his feet
and exclaimed, "Dis
shield...it belong ta
Geoffrey, dah big
knite of Human king!"
Everyone was aghast,
the captain of
British's royal guard,
Sir Geoffrey
himself, taken down
by a lowly mongbat.
The whole dungeon
seemed to reverberate
with celebration as the
young mongbat was
paraded around the
tunnels as a hero.

That night, the
monsters celebrated as
never before,
honoring the
courageous mongbat
who had fulfilled his
dream of glory. No
one in that dungeon
would ever doubt the
power of a Mongbat
and his determination.
The legend of the
Courageous Mongbat is
still told to this day
amongst the Mongbats
all over Sosaria.

And to this day,
when Geoffrey is
asked about that day
he walked back to
Britian, naked, wet,
and with a gigantic
knot on his forehead, he still turns red as
an apple and exclaims
nervously, "It was
Ogres, at least a dozen,
I say!"
