The mechanical creatures
and devices that form
the Nexus communicate to
each other in a sort of
code. Using magic similar
to the magic found in
human communication
crystals, the devices of
the Nexus are able to
send information over
great distances. Since
most of these creations
are not intelligent, they
do not talk. They mostly
sent short signals that
allow them to function in
a way similar to insects.
The signals seem to be
entirely situational. For
example, damaged devices
will start by sending a
signal with location
information. When a
human controller or
overseer interacts with
the device, the signal
changes to provide
information on the type
of malfunction.

The basics of the signal
are numeric. The machines
of Exodus use a different
number system that we
gargoyles (fives and sixes)
or humans (tens). Their
system is based on the
number three. I believe
this has something to do
with the nature of
Exodus, being both matter
and ethereal.

Zero (0) is "nothing" and
is represented by *bip*

One (1) is "material" and
is represented by *beep*

Two (2) is "ethereal" and
is represented by
*beeep*

Location information is
given a set of numbers:
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-
12-13

Number 1 is the facet:

0 - Felucca 
1 - Trammel 
2 - Ilshenar

Numbers 2 to 6 make up
the north-south
coordinates in Exodus
base (3). The easiest way
to remember this is:

#2x81 + #3x27 + 
#4x9 + #5x3 + #6

Number 7 is north or
south:

0 - North 
1 - South 
2 - Neither

Number 8 to 12 make up
the east-west coordinates
in Exodus base:

#8x81 + #9x27 + 
#10x9 #11x3 + #12

The final number is east
or west:

0 - East 
1 - West 
2 - Neither

When the device has
contacted someone capable
of making repairs, the
device changes to another
set of numbers:

1-2-3-4

Numbers 1 and 2 is a
required number of
components, corresponding
from zero (bip-bip) to
eight (beep-beep):

#1x3 + #2

Numbers 3 and 4
correspond to eight
components required to
repair all Nexus devices:

bip-bip - Ingots 
bip-beep - Gears 
bip-beeeep - Arcane Gems 
beep-bip - Clockwork Assembly 
beep-beep - Power Crystal 
beep-beeep - Mechanical Component 
beeep-bip - Punch Card 
beeep-beep - Nexus Core 
beeep-beeep - Unknown

While I suspect there are
other situational cues, I
have yet to determine
the exact details.
