A powerful mage in life
and a lich in death, Kana
Kurokawa wished to avoid
his own destruction and
decay. He became
obsessed with the story
of Izanagi and Izanami.

In the story, Izanagi and
Izanami created the
islands of Tokuno and
everything contained on
the islands. During this
creation, Izanimi gave
birth to fire and died
from the burns. Izanagi,
tormented by grief,
traveled into the
underworld to see her.
Sadly, she had already
eaten the food of the
underworld and could not
return normally. Izanagi
desired to sneak her out
while she was sleeping,
but when he light a torch
of hair to look at her,
he saw she was rotting
and twisted. Crying out in
shock, he fled the waking
Izanami. Unable to capture
her fleeing husband, filled
with rage and shame,
Izanami promised she
would kill a thousand of
Izanagi’s people every
day. In reply, he promised
to give life to a
thousand and a half.

Kurokawa took this story
to heart, believing his
first death and slow
decay were Izanami’s hand
at work. He created
several powerful magical
items to prevent his
destruction. With one
experiment he toyed with
the magics of time and
prophecy, invoking a great
spell “Kal Vas Wis Tym
Sanct Corp” and binding
the spell into a skull. The
spell, roughly meaning
“the summoning of great
future knowledge to
protect against death,”
gave whoever looked into
the skull’s eyes the
ability to learn of a
threat to their life and
limb.

The item did not work
entirely as the lich had
planned. He had made a
mistake, and the item
was cursed. While
knowledge of the future
was learned, so also was
a taste of that future
manifested in the present.
A taste of the valor,
belonging to a samurai
who was fated to fight
against the lich
materialized and struck
the creature down. All
others who have chosen
willingly to look into the
skull have faced similar
fates. The skull came to
be called “Izanami's
Spite” because of this.
Only one monk who
guarded the skull ever
escaped its magic
unharmed. A thief at the
temple who wished to
escape in the chaos used
the skull on the monk.
The monk, wishing to
protect his fellows, threw
him will against dark
spell, chanting “In Vas
Zu An Tym.”

While the item's power
may be fading with time,
we do not know if it will
ever be safe to use, so
we protect it here hidden
from all.
