Cole's sad story is, unfortunately, isntructive about the dangers faced by the Secret Service in the field.

Cole appears to have been a competent and loyal operative of the Britannian Secret Service/Ministry of Security for most of his career.  He performed several important duties in Ilshenar, including manning, with another operative, a critical obserbvation post over the ruined, demonically-infested city of Montor.  And it was that duty, performed well, which did Cole in.  His dreams were invaded by demonic powers and, in this altered, dreamy state, he was turned to the Bane Chosen.

 Cole performed well for Virtuebane's Chosen, as he had for the Ministry of Security before.&nbsp; So well in fact that he was "awarded"&nbsp;dominion over Ilshenar by Virtuebane, and supervised the construction of a castle to solidify his lordship.&nbsp; He was also involved in Virtuebane's most-devistating attack.&nbsp; He retreived from the Dungeon Despise a deadly poison, and with the assistance of the dread Pirate "Maggie the Red"&nbsp;(Maggie Keel), he managed to affixt this poison to a dagger associated with an undead assassin.&nbsp; This dagger, with Cole's poison, was used to murder Queen Dawn.
 The Ministry of Security tracked Cole to his half-finished castle, near the ruined City of Montor in Ilshenar, and killed him.&nbsp; His head decorated a pike outside the Counselor's Hall in West Britain for some time, along with the heads of 3 others who were most-directly involved in Queen Dawn's murder.&nbsp;
 What the sheild cannot defend, the sword can avenge.
