Barry the Moongate is the Luna Moongate. It first became sentient, or made us aware of its sentience, following the appearance of Inu the Crone, when Moongates appeared to become of importance for reasons that were never quite clear to any of us. (We now know that the Moongates were being effected by the Shadowlords attempts to enter our realm through the Ethereal Void. Conventional Moongates proved inadequate to the task, and the Shadowlords were forced to find another point of entry.)

Despite the magic that either made Barry sentient or made it first able to express its sentience appears to have dissipated, Barry can still be communicated with in a rudimentary way. He is frequently seen chiding people for not referring to their pets by the pets' names.
