The path was blazen 
with runes, marked 
for fast travel to the 
site of the ambush.  
The Brethren were 
informed that a small 
party of Drow were 
travelling the lands 
known as the Arena, 
and that now was the 
perfect opportunity to 
strike.  All available 
prepared for the 
onslaught.


Lord Sovereign missed 
the first gate, and 
intentionally so.  
While the Brethren of 
Light were facing 
insurmountable odds, 
he would be holding a 
pleasant chat with 
Silvaria, Drow 
Jabbress.  As pleasant 
a conversation as can 
be held with a 
darkened elf, 
anyway.


One by one, the 
Brethren fell, until 
their numbers were 
strewn across the 
battlefield, from one 
end to the other.  They 
had never suffered 
such defeat, and were 
aghast that their plans 
for ambush were so 
horribly ill-fated.


Even before the first 
Drow appeared behind 
their lines, they knew 
something was wrong. 
Rumors of the 
Traitor had been 
circulating for many 
days.  When it was 
finally realized that 
they had been 
betrayed, it was far 
too late.  The real 
ambush had slain 
every last bringer of 
Light.


Their ghosts spoke in 
a symphony of 
outrage.  Even after 
they had returned to 
their bodies, the 
awestruck Brethren 
were still piecing the 
events together.  Sorn 
Duskryn, wearing his 
usual, revolting, 
pointed grin, rode up 
on his mount to make 
the usual small talk.  
It was his manner to 
treat the defeated 
with this false 
respect; a wonton 
disregard for the 
Valor of the fallen.


It was now that one 
finally realized: Lord 
Niltsiar had not 
followed.  Surely, he 
had set them up for 
the fall.  Had he been 
there, the Brethren 
would have lynched 
their guildmaster that 
very instant.  But a 
few -- those with 
warm hearts and cool 
heads -- demanded to 
see all the evidence 
before thinking of 
doing such a thing.  
They wished a trial.  
He was innocent until 
proven otherwise.


So each with their 
own reason, they 
raced back to the 
guildhouse in search 
of the elusive Truth, 
only to have their 
suspicions verified.  
As the door to the 
guildhouse swung 
wide, Niltsiar sat 
there, grinning, with 
none other than 
Silvaria herself.
